I have been making leather printing rollers for Several years. At the request of one of our customers I put together a proto-type leather brayer for hard and soft grounds. Each roller core is hand made, one at a time. The core is maple covered in a wool felt. The leather is fit to the roller and the seam is hand stitched for strength and long service. The core is then fit to the brayer handle using replaceable nylon bushings. These brayers are designed to provide the smoothest intaglio grounds possible.

Our customer was so pleased that I felt I would make them available to all our customers. Here is what she had to say about our Leather Brayer:

I am thrilled to report on the outstanding quality and performance of my new brayer. It has all the qualities necessary for applying etching grounds. The size and weight is right, the seam is perfect, and it has a three point "stand" to insure proper elevation of the leather while at rest. As an object it is beautifully constructed, but performance is what counts in the end. The very first hardground I put on a plate was perfectly effortless and each subsequent ground is just as beautiful-thin and luminous. I found rolling hardground on large plate, which always provides a challenge, to be quite effortless. The grounds I see my students producing reflects well on the quality of construction of this item.
